Good News from Colombia

Ingrid Betancourt, three Americans and 11 other hostages were rescued in a bold move by the Colombian government. Ms. Betancourt was kidnapped as she was running for President in 2002. The Americans have been held since 2003 when their plane went down on a narcotics-related mission. Some of the others, Colombian military personnel, had been held for a decade.
You can read the story above or catch it on the news as it’s the talk of the airwaves right now. I am glad to see the good guys win one without a shot being fired. The Colombian army had infiltrated the higher ranks of the militants, or terrorists really. This was a big deal and it turned out nicely for the hostages.
Nearly 700 other people are held hostage by FARC, the militant group that held Ms. Betancourt and the others. Maybe something good will happen and they can be released also.
I am happy to see a story like this. I am also happy to see it being reported the way it is. We need good news every now and then. John McCain and Barack Obama give us all the bad news we need to see, hear and read about.
