Take That Russia
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/07/02/missile.defense.poland/index.html
The United States and Poland have struck a deal to put U.S. missiles on Polish soil to deter an Iranian attack on Europe or the United States. Russia objects to this as they think the missiles are there to deter them. I say good on both counts. I don’t trust Russia nor Iran. We need to watch them closely and deter them in every way possible.
These missiles would be part of a defense shield based in the Czech Republic. This comprehensive system will make Europe, the U.S. and the world safer in the coming years.
Russia is really galled since these two nations, Poland and the Czech Republic, were former satellites of the Soviet Union. They now align themselves with the United States in most matters. The Russians don’t like that. I think it is wonderful. We need to foster more cooperation with these nations.
Also, as an afterthought and a bit of a couple of asides here. The media reported the story as a news report should be. They did not get into all the analysis about President Bush and such since this is good news. I will help them a bit. The report should have begun with, “In a stinging rebuke to Russia, Iran, and the American left the United States has struck a deal to put American missiles on Russia’s doorstep.” A second thought: Do you think we’d see actions such as this if Obama were President?
I love news such as this. We don’t care what Russia thinks, nor Iran. We are going to do what is right to protect us and our allies in Europe. That’s what a superpower does. And we play the role well when we are allowed to!!
